Clinical Philosophy
The Importance of Scientific Activity in Surgery
Surgical practice is a field in constant evolution. Staying actively involved in activities such as writing scientific articles, reviewing manuscripts and presenting at conferences and courses is essential — not as an academic exercise, but as a mechanism for continuous clinical updating that directly benefits patients.
Contributing to research and the scientific literature makes it possible to share discoveries, innovative techniques and best practices. Peer review — as a peer reviewer for the journals AJSM, KSSTA, OJSM, JEO and BMJ — is a responsibility that safeguards the rigour and quality of scientific evidence in orthopaedics.
Collaboration with leading international centres has been a constant source of scientific updating, with joint publications on cruciate ligament reconstruction and anterolateral knee pathology, as well as training activities in Portugal and abroad.
